Oromo Language and Culture Development Club Established In Dire-Dawa University with a slogan “This generation has a duty to preserve our language, culture, values and history and hand it to the next generation.”
Dr. Yared Mamo, Presedent of Dire-Dawa University says he has confidence that the club will work hard to transfer the existing peace, love and tolerance of Ethiopian people to the next generation by promoting the language, culture and values of Oromo people.
The establishment program was attended by the famous “Afren-Qello’’ artists, “Abba-Geda”, Society elders and the University’s community. In addition the club provided the Oromo traditional food and a stage performance that displayed the diversified traditional wear of different Ethiopian nations and nationalities.
A research paper on Oromo history, culture and language was also presented by Dr. Teshome Egere, Head of Oromo Language Department in Jima University and discussed by the participants.
Student Beqila Geromsa, the founder of the club says, operates free from any religious and political expression or bias, and strives to harmonize the Oromo culture with the rest nations’ and nationalities’ through experience sharing activities. Above all the club exercise to achieve solidarity through promotion of ‘Beauty in Diversity.’
The ‘Oromo Language And Culture Club’ established on Meyazeya 5, 2011 E.C. according to the right of students to organize under the University Students’ Union.
