Dire Dawa’s Development Association, in its general assembly, announced that it is under preparation to nominate new board members. W/O Kebebush Buruno, the Association’s Board Member and Head said that the association, with the help of The Mayor’s Office, had begun its effort to nominate new board members in order to achieve its targeted goal.
Established in 2003/4 with the initiation of the village elders, the association has become active after hosting two festivals to introduce it self. However, the association as so far been weakened due to lack of reaching in to a firm standing points among the board members and friends of the city. The number of board member has also decreased significantly, even though it began with 15 members during its establishment.
The Head urged that children and friends of Dire need to join the good cause the association which is developing the city so that what has been planned could be achieved through efforts which exceed the love of Dire they spread through a word of mouth.
It is recalled that during the tragic flood, the association has coordinated the society in a campaign, including from Addis Ababa, and raised more than 200 thousand Birr.
Currently, staffs of Police Commission, Kebele 02 and 03’s staffs and Mariam Sefer’s School are among the donors for the association.
Particularly, donors of the administration’s 350 staff members of the Police Commission, said she, that they deserve a greater recognition on behalf of Dire Dawa. The Head of the association added that no governmental sectors, except Agricultural and rural Development Bureau, have made any contribution for the association. The Head further indicated that the association, so far, has deposited more than 72 thousand Birr, which was collected from these collaborators.
In order to strengthen the efforts of the association by making the number of the board members complete, writing a letter to the Mayor’s office, the association has received a positive response. She added that, a body which is assigned by the Mayor’s Office is established who is responsible for this success. In addition to the developmental activities performed by the government and the administration, the association, co-working side by side with them, was established to fill the gaps that are observed between the two. Even though many efforts have been made to achieve this goal, the responses have been found less satisfactory. The Head stressed that in order to take Dire to a better further step in development, organizing the new board members can not suffice on its on. Instead, she added, all children of Dire including the residents and any one who says they love Dire should take part in seeing a better Dire Dawa tomorrow.
